What is collected here
What analytics collects
Analytics data is not sent until you accept. One choice covers two systems.
Google Analytics collects usage data: which pages were viewed and when, browser and device type, approximate country, and how you reached the site. Google uses the IP address at collection time to derive approximate location, then discards the IP address before it is logged or stored in Google Analytics.
Sanskrit Setu's own analytics may record what happened on the site: which page was viewed, which subject was chosen, which taste was played, and when. It stores no IP address. The request's browser identification string is read to distinguish automated traffic from human traffic; the string itself is not stored, only the resulting automated-or-not answer.
Analytics does not collect your name, your email address or payment details.
The visitor identifier
If you accept analytics, we store a random value in your browser. Events carry it so that ten page views from one browser count as one visitor rather than ten.
It identifies a browser, not a person. It is not a name and not a login: there is no password and no sign-in anywhere here. It is also not the participant slot described below — that is a separate value, and the two are not the same thing. Another browser or another device gets a different one. Two people sharing a browser look like one visitor; one person using two browsers looks like two. It says nothing about who you are and nothing about your other devices.
It is created only if you accept, and only then. Declining deletes it and stops it being sent. Accepting again creates a new one, unconnected to the old.
In the learning app
The learning app records what you did as you learn. It is covered by the same analytics choice as the rest of the site: nothing is sent unless you accept.
The participant slot
When you join, the app holds a participant slot — a random value that stands for the learner using this app. It is not the visitor identifier above. The visitor identifier says which browser; the slot says which learner. Neither is a name and neither is an account: there is still no password and no sign-in.
What the app records
Lessons. Which lesson you opened, which you started, and which you completed. A lesson is named by a stable identifier of its own, not by where it sits on the screen. Movement between the steps inside a lesson is not recorded.
Practice. When a practice activity starts and finishes, how many questions it held, and for each question answered: which question it was, which attempt it was, and whether the answer was correct. Practice is recorded only where practice content exists — many lessons have none, and those record no practice activity at all.
Vocabulary. When a vocabulary practice session starts and finishes, which mode you chose, and how many items it held. Individual vocabulary answers are not recorded, and neither is which word any one answer was about.
Mastery. When a mastery check starts and finishes, and the outcome the app awards it.
Activity identifiers. Each practice, vocabulary or mastery run carries a random identifier for that run, so that what happened in one sitting can be counted as one sitting.
Time. How long a completed activity was open and in front of you is measured in your browser. It is not sent to us today.
What the app does not record
Analytics does not record the answer you gave — only whether it was correct. It does not record the text of any question or prompt, and it does not record anything you write in your own words.
Your name and your email address are never analytics. Joining sends them to us, and the feedback form sends your note; both are things you choose to send, described below. Neither is analytics, and the analytics choice does not control either of them.
Why
To understand how the site and the learning app are used — which sections get read, where people stop, and how learning activities are worked through — and to improve them.
What you send us on purpose
The contact form asks for your name, email address and message. All three are required; the address is what lets us reply.
The feedback form asks for a note, and optionally your name and email address. It also sends the subject you chose and which tastes you had already opened, so the feedback arrives with its context. We can reply only if you left an address.
Both are information you choose to send. Neither is analytics, and neither is covered by the analytics choice.
Requests that happen either way
Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, and that request discloses your IP address to Google whatever your analytics choice. The contact form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which loads on that page. Neither is analytics.
Who receives analytics data
Google Analytics data goes to Google, as the operator of that service.
Sanskrit Setu's own analytics data comes to us.
How to change your choice
The default is no analytics: no analytics data is sent until you accept.
To change your choice, reopen the analytics choice. Declining stops future analytics transmission from this site. Changing your choice does not remove Sanskrit Setu analytics events already received.
Clearing the site's storage in your browser also resets the choice.
